Starknet, an Ethereum Layer 2 scaling project, has unveiled SN Stack, a comprehensive software suite that enables developers to create appchains—customized blockchains designed for specific applications. This development signifies a step toward greater modularity within the Starknet ecosystem.
SN Stack integrates critical components, including Starknet OS for blockchain operations, CairoVM for executing smart contracts, Blockifier for block construction, and advanced cryptographic provers and verifiers.
Tailored Solutions with SN Stack’s Variants
To address diverse development requirements, SN Stack offers three distinct versions:
- Madara: A modular and flexible open-source framework.
- Dojo: A platform designed for gaming and complex on-chain applications.
- StarkWare Sequencer: A robust infrastructure solution for dApps requiring high performance.
Eli Ben-Sasson, co-founder and CEO of StarkWare, Starknet’s core development team, emphasized, “With SN Stack, projects can now leverage ZK-STARK cryptography to build appchains with ease and cost efficiency, rivaling the capabilities of optimistic rollups.”
Early Adoption and Industry Momentum
Paradex, an appchain leveraging SN Stack, has already been operational as a design partner, showcasing the potential of this innovative toolset.
The Ethereum Layer 2 landscape has seen remarkable growth in 2024, with the number of rollups exceeding 100—a threefold increase from 2023. This expansion reflects heightened demand for scalable blockchain solutions and the proliferation of advanced development tools.
Starknet’s move aligns with a broader industry trend toward modularity, as developers increasingly adopt software stacks from leading projects like Optimism, Arbitrum, ZKSync, and Linea. The introduction of SN Stack further reinforces Starknet’s position in this rapidly evolving ecosystem.
