Coinbase has officially introduced the Base App, a major rebranding of its Coinbase Wallet that now serves as a comprehensive onchain “everything app.” This all-in-one platform merges social networking, embedded mini-apps, messaging, crypto payments, and trading—marking a new milestone in the evolution of the Base ecosystem.
The announcement came during Coinbase’s “A New Day One” event, where the company outlined its revamped vision. The Base ecosystem now consists of three core components: the Base Chain (an Ethereum Layer 2 network), Base Build (a toolset for developers), and the new Base App, designed as the primary interface for users to interact with onchain experiences.
Base App Beta Launches with Tokenized Content and Real-Time Trading
Beginning July 16, waitlisted users will gain beta access to the Base App, which includes a social feed powered by the Farcaster protocol. This feed enables creators to tokenize their posts via Zora, monetize through tips and sales, and receive weekly engagement rewards.
Users can also track friends’ trades in real-time, and swap tokens directly within the feed, eliminating the need to toggle between different apps or interfaces.
Mini-Apps, AI, and One-Tap Payments Embedded into the Experience
The Base App is packed with hundreds of integrated mini-apps, from blockchain games to prediction markets. It also features seamless USDC payments via NFC, and end-to-end encrypted messaging powered by XMTP. Through these chats, users can send funds, interact with AI agents, or simply share onchain content with others.
Upon registration, each user receives a Base Account, a smart wallet that automatically syncs across all apps and chains. The company also debuted Base Pay, a new USDC checkout system that offers near-instant transaction speeds.
Shopify merchants can start accepting Base Pay immediately, while U.S.-based users will receive 1% cash back on eligible purchases later this year. However, Base App rewards are currently unavailable in the European Union and Canada.
Coinbase Aims to Make Onchain Interaction Effortless
Coinbase says its goal is to make onchain activity as intuitive as using a regular app. By eliminating the traditional Web3 friction points, the Base App allows eligible users to post content, trade crypto, and earn rewards—all within a single, unified platform.
A full public release is expected after the beta testing period. Developers are also encouraged to adopt the “Sign in with Base” functionality into their apps to help expand the ecosystem.
Expanding Beyond the App: AI Partnerships and Derivatives
The launch of Base App follows recent strategic moves by Coinbase, including the onboarding of Opyn’s core team to strengthen its decentralized derivatives offerings. In addition, Coinbase has partnered with Perplexity AI, an AI-powered search engine startup, to develop a real-time crypto data service.
